Otakon’s staff should be congratulated for their excellent work in preparing for and running the convention so smoothly, especially considering the staggering count of 30,000+ people that needed to be dealt with this year. However, despite this overall success, there are still issues that could be addressed.
Every year, Otakon offers a variety of panels and workshops to attend, and tries to bring some of Japan's most popular musical acts to the United States to perform live-- often in US debuts. With the support of industry guests, these musical acts, and the involvement of fans, Otakon has something for everyone. Here are summaries and my impressions of the events I attended!
Otakon 2011, with a crowd of over 31,000 attendees, was without a doubt one of the largest events of the summer for fans of Japanese popular culture. Fans from across the country crowded Baltimore's inner harbor to view films, attend panels, and interact with both American industry guests and ones brought over from Japam. Fans and industry representatives joining together to show the best the community had to offer.
